Why aren’t my website visitors converting into subscribers, leads or sales?

You can see from your analytics info that people are visiting your website.

But they don’t stick around, and they’re not doing what you want them to do.

Here are 5 things to consider to help you understand, and fix, whatever’s going on.

Traffic comes to my website, but it’s not converting into susbcribers, leads or sales. How do I begin to tackle this?

Hello, I’m Laura from Worditude, and I have an intentionally comfy business that makes the money I need while squishing in around my other life priorities, responsibilities, challenges and adventures.

This is the Ask Laura podcast. where, in 10 minutes or less, I answer your questions, using my 15 + years of experience in copywriting, marketing, and making money online.

Today’s question is: “I’m getting some website traffic but nothing happens next. What are the likely roadblocks here?”

Here are some things to investigate to help you understand, and hopefully improve your website traffic conversion.

#1 How is this traffic coming to your website.

Are they being referred by someone? Are they coming in via search terms? Is it subscribers clicking on an email link? Content that’s been shared on social.

You don’t need to know ALL the sources – you’ll probably find 3-5 routes that make up the large majority of your traffic.

#2 Is that source a good match for you?

Are these people the right people?

How good a match are they for the content you create and the products or services you sell.

For example, if you run a photography business, but have a blog post unintentionally attracting traffic for wedding dress cleaning in NAME OF LOCATION’ – don’t be surprised if that’s not generating many leads…they’ve already had their wedding.

#3 What does their arrival lounge look like

They’ve just stepping through a link and landed on your website – what do they see? What’s their first impression? How easy is it for them to find out who you are, what you do, if you’re for them.

You could add a short bio to the bottom of your blog posts.

#4 Where do you want them to go next

Is it obvious to them what they should do next? Do you know what you want them to do next – because if you don’t that’s how the trouble starts.

#5 Are those next steps compelling

  • Sales Sleuth – works for sales pages and lead magnet conversion
  • Humble Mumble Cure if you find being salesy a bit gross
  • Persuasion Power-Ups so you can make your marketing content more compelling

And that’s a wrap.
